Letter Published Sunday Times;  11 April 2007

Sir, The poor quality of decision-making in the higher echelons of our Government and the military over the Iran captives goes some way to explaining why events in Iraq have been so badly mismanaged since the invasion.

The treatment of the former captives is in stark contrast with the poor treatment afforded to our wounded servicemen and the delays in their financial compensation, as well as the treatment of the relatives of those killed in Iraq who have to wait months for inquiries into their loved ones’ deaths and for any financial compensation.

PATRICK WATSON Former British army officer London SW8
