PARLIAMENTS ETHICS

Letter Published the Times 27 January 2009

Parliament’s ethics

SIR – Douglas Carswell (Comment, January 25) is one of the few MPs to explain how badly MPs behave and how unwilling they are to reform themselves. MPs seem to think that they are a law unto themselves rather than our representatives. It would be worth them taking a leaf out of America’s book. President Obama said: “And those of us who manage the public’s dollars will be held to account – to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day – because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.” Patrick Watson London SW8
